Updated version of The Red Flag, in honour of Our Jeremy!

Hello friends, and welcome to Day 4 of this increasingly influential blog, which as you all know, is totally dedicated to supporting Our Jeremy, as is rather subtly hinted at in its title!

Well, today’s blog is a little different!  It is on a musical note – pun intended! My good friend and comrade, TotallySickOfRefutingPredictableEULies, recently suggested that I should update the whole of that magnificent Socialist Anthem, The Red Flag, in honour of the imminent ascension of Our Jeremy to Supreme Political Power, and I have indeed done just that!

Needless to say, I have shown the finished version to Jeremy, and am pleased to report that he said I’ve managed to achieve exactly the sort of standard of writing that he has come to expect from me!  What a compliment eh! *Blushes*!

Anyway, without further ado, here is, for the very first time, my updated version of The Red Flag, which hopefully will be sung at the next Labour Party Conference. Enjoy!

Our Jeremy’s flag is, and always will be, totally deepest red,
It shames Red Tory Treacherous scum who should rightly be dead,
The sheer Fascism of the Far Right views they predictably hold,
Must be consigned in to the Dustbin of History, ‘ere we grow old.

So raise the scarlet standard high, whilst supporting Our Jeremy all the time,
Beneath its shade we’ll live and die, and win a 2020 Election landslide,
Though the Banksters and the 1% flinch, and Red Tory traitors predictably sneer,
We’ll totally smash the evil Tory scum, and keep the Red Flag flying here!

Look ’round, People’s Tribune John McDonnell totally loves its blaze,
Our sturdy Diane, when on Question Time, happily chants its praise,
In Socialist Councils up and down the land it is joyfully sung,
In anticipation of that 2020 General Election landslide that will soon be won.

It waved above our infant might, defying totally the Hard Right,
When all ahead was a total neoliberal hegemony which we had to fight,
It witnessed many a totally predictable act of treachery, and how!
Friends, whatever we do, we really must not change its colour now.

It well recalls the triumphs past, i.e. Jeremy’s election on 12th September last,
It gives hope of peace at last, when the Malvinas to the Argentinians are passed,
The banner bright, the symbol plain, defying those Red Tories who are such pains,
Upholding our Human Rights and taxing the Banksters’ totally unjustified gains.

It suits today the weak and base, i.e. the Red Tory traitors who are a total disgrace,
Whose minds are fixed on how to sell out Socialism and put Fascism in its place,
To cringe before the 1%’s frown, and set up compulsory Food Banks in every town,
And, in an act of total treachery to Our Movement, haul the sacred emblem down.

With all our hearts we all pledge total loyalty to Our Jeremy, all of us walking tall,
To keep on totally fighting the Right-wing Red Tory Traitors and scum till we fall;
Come every sort of Bedroom Tax, Zero-Hours Contract and Tory Austerity grim,
This wonderfully updated (though I say so myself!) song shall be our parting hymn.

  1. I’m disappointed that there’s no reference to Jeremy’s two core, and some would say only, policies of renationalising Trident and scrapping the railways.

These are important things which the people of Britain are crying out for. Apparently.

  2. Apologies, friend. These key policies are, of course, essential to the sort of future that we on the Progressive Left envision.

But, as you will have doubtless noticed, my new version of the Red Flag is intended to be as timeless as its predecessor is – and since Trident will indeed be renationalised and the railways totally scrapped within 24 hours of Our Jeremy’s ascent to Supreme Power, which obviously will happen any day now, there would be a danger of my new version becoming totally out-of-date in only a few days’ time.

And the last thing that we in the Labour Party want is for us to appear to be totally out-of-date and stuck in the past, isn’t it?

    1. I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment, we must continue to fight to make the Labour party the party of the working class again.
I am struggling to put the words to the tune.
      Shouldn’t it look more like this;

Our Jeremy’s flag is, and will always will be
      Of totally deepest red,
It shames Treacherous Red Tory scum
who should rightly all be dead,
The sheer Fascism of the Far Right
      Those views they predictably hold,
Must be consigned to the bin of History,
      Before we all grow old.

      1. Hi Brian – I am so glad that you agree with me that The Red Flag has a tune. Only a tone-deaf Tory/Kipper, brainwashed in to “enjoying” bourgeois so-called music by the arch-Neoliberal Mozart or the Fascist-supporting Wagner (to give just three examples) could claim that this magnificent anthem is nothing more than a dull, practically tuneless, dirge.

(Serious bit:) I take your point about breaking the lines as you suggest. Unfortunately, it was practically impossible to fit it on this blog even in its current form – those large gaps were not intended, but were the only alternative to no spaces between verses/choruses. Typical capitalist WordPress! In the form you suggest, I think it would not have fitted at all, but I’ll have a go some time and if it proves possible will follow your suggestion.

  3. Well done comrade suppuratingsorejeremy, it is good to see some progressive thinking still alive and well in our great socialist movement.

I am intending to write some verses myself as a Marching Song for the 10,000 people on the long march to Liverpool this Saturday

I hope you noticed how well Jeremy performed at PMQ’s today. Cameron was well and truly skewered by the insightful and forensic questioning from the Great Leader. Child benefits is the big question of our times, even though the evil Tories try to change the narrative by going off on tangents about insignificant topics like the EU, Migration and the Deficit.

But they could not fool JC..he was like a terrier with a bone and kept on showing the capitalist neo-cons for what they are… Heartless, uncaring , mean, and just ..well, Tories.

Anyway, keep up the good work. I have to crack on and get my placard finished for Saturday’s big event. It’s going to say ” Support our Jeremy ” in tribute to this blog.

Please let Jeremy know that he is welcome to come along and we would be happy to have him speak at our ‘ red ribbon’ event in Liverpool a week on Tuesday…that is if he can spare the time from devising new ways to spear Cameron at PMQ’s natch

    1. Thank you for your encouraging message, TotallyTired. Jeremy’s performance at PMQs today was really something, wasn’t it? The Tories are making a huge mistake in underestimating him, because it really is quite impossible to underestimate Our Jeremy!

I shall pass on your invitation to Jeremy, when I see him later this evening. If he could attend, it would boost our Mass March’s attendance by 50%, which is not to be sniffed at! He doesn’t like cupcakes though – if he comes along, I’ll make sure to pack a few tins of baked beans … Can’t wait to see your placard, it’s very humbling to think that this Blog has inspired you so much. 🙂

As to what to sing – how about some of those great, memorable Billy Bragg numbers from the 80s, along with snatches of the updated Red Flag interspersed to provide variety?

  4. This is the best song, EVER!

I didn’t think anything could have been better than the bearded lady on Eurovision, but you have nailed it, BRAVO Comrade!
I’ve been singing it non stop, I even recorded myself and use it as a ringtone, it helps spread the message when I am out and about.

Last night I went into a worker class pub, stood on a chair and started singing really loudly, I thought it would stir the worker class men into a revolutionary fervour, but they just threw beer and peanuts at me.

Perhaps it wasn’t a worker class pub, do you know any?

My new phone got soaked, now it wont work, I’ve put it in the oven overnight so hopefully all is well now, I really miss tweeting.
